A330-200F: The backbone of Avianca Cargo's operation

Avianca Cargo, A330-200F are unrivaled leaders in Latin American cargo market

Avianca Cargo's network currently offers comprehensive coverage of the Americas, providing freight services to 21 destinations in 13 countries. And the A330-200F has shown its maturity within the Avianca Cargo network, especially with difficult operational conditions in airports considered "hot-and-high," such as El Dorado in Bogota, Tababela in Quito and Benito Juarez in Mexico City. The A330-200F also provides the flexibility to cover regional sectors such as Bogota-Quito (380nm) and long distances such as Miami-Curitiba (3,570nm).

Compatibility between the A330-200F and Avianca's A330-200 fleet has also played an important role in the reduction of operational costs, such as crew training and aircraft maintenance. Similarly, the compatibility of the lower cargo deck of the A330 Family enables the exchange of pallets and containers between the Avianca Cargo network and passenger transport network of Avianca.

In terms of transported cargo volume, the airline’s growth has been gradual and steady during the last five years. Avianca Cargo has achieved impressive levels of operational performance, and combined with its commercial excellence it is considered the top cargo airline in Colombia and second at Miami International Airport.

Avianca Cargo was founded in Medellín, Colombia in 1973. In September 2011, the airline made a firm order for four A330-200F, of which the first was delivered in December 2012. Currently its fleet is comprised of six A330-200F, which positions Avianca Cargo as the largest operator of this variant in the world and the most modern cargo aircraft operator in the Americas with an average fleet age of just 1.8 years. The entire fleet of Avianca Cargo freighters is equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines.

Avianca Cargo's operation largely depends on the transport of Colombian and Ecuadorian floriculture. The A330-200F is considered an optimal freighter to transport flowers thanks to its effective temperature control system that can reach temperatures from five to 25 degrees Celsius in all compartments of the aircraft.

In 2015, Avianca Cargo established an important operational record thanks to the extensive use of its fleet of A330-200Fs. With 11.24 hours of daily flight time and high dispatch reliability of 99.32 percent, the airline achieved the transport of 21,200 tons of flowers for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

The A330-200F is the most versatile cargo aircraft currently available on the market. The dynamic mode permits transporting loads from 65 to 70 tons, within a range of up to 4,000nm.
