In My Perspective
The A220 exceeds expectations
Step-change innovations in commercial aviation allow airlines to rely on eco-efficiency without compromising on comfort and range.
We know well that when an airline sets out to select a new aircraft type, they carefully consider aircraft efficiency (aerodynamic, engine and weight), passenger capacity and the reduction of emissions.
The Airbus A220 has proven itself thanks to its unrivalled efficiency and wide-body comfort in a single-aisle configuration. The most advanced, single-aisle aircraft in the 100-150 seat market segment has become the perfect balance between efficiency and comfort for airlines all over the world.
Regionally, the A220 is perfectly suited to serve a variety of key markets in the Americas, including Buenos Aires-Sao Paulo, Santiago-Sao Paulo, Lima-Miami, Sao Paulo to Lima or Mexico City-New York. And of course it is the ideal route opener for an infinite number of domestic routes.
But don't take my word for it. Let's look at the numbers. With more than 155,000 flights, covering over 250 routes and reaching upwards of 150 destinations, Airbus has received 500 plus orders for the A220 from 20 customers across the world and has delivered over 80 aircraft.
And with regards to eco-efficiency, the A220 proves that efficiency and the environment can coexist. The A220 consumes 20 percent less fuel per seat than similar aircraft from previous generations and has 50 percent less emissions than those mandated by the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP/6).
The A220 also stands out on passenger experience. Its cross-section design creates a true wide body comfort in a single-aisle aircraft that features larger seats, more sidewall clearance, larger windows for better cabin illumination and spacious overhead pivot bins that allow each passenger to store a roller-bag.
Airbus is looking forward to bringing the A220 to Latin America, an aircraft we are confident can exceed the demanding needs and expectations of our region.
