In My Perspective
Shaping the Future of Flight: Airbus Advances on its Commitments
As the year unfolds, at Airbus we remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver to our customers, prioritising production ramp-up, monitoring the stability of our supply chain and continuing to strive for efficiency. At the same time, we are shaping the future of flight by actively developing the next generation of aircraft and rigorously testing the technological foundations for hydrogen-powered aviation.
It's clear that, over the past few years, the aerospace industry has had to navigate a landscape of economic and geopolitical volatility. The VUCA framework - Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity - aptly describes the current global climate. Geopolitical shifts, economic headwinds and technological disruptions are creating a constant state of flux that is challenging even established sectors like ours. But in the midst of this dynamic environment, Airbus strives to maintain its unwavering purpose.
We are resolutely focused on achieving our ambitious production ramp-up to fulfil the historical order backlog across all our aircraft families. This drive is also underpinned by our core values, our spirit of pioneering innovation and our profound purpose: to pioneer sustainable aerospace for a safe and united world.
Our continued investment in research and development is designed to keep us at the forefront of aerospace technology. This commitment to innovation goes beyond simply building more aircraft; it's about developing the next generation of aircraft - more fuel efficient, quieter and ultimately more sustainable. The recent Airbus Summit in March unveiled a series of advances, technological milestones and strategic partnerships to define the future of aerospace. Recognising that this transformation requires a collective effort, collaboration remains paramount to achieving the industry's decarbonisation goals.
Airbus' approach to sustainability is based on respecting the planet, valuing people and enabling prosperity. This approach is embedded in everything we do - from design to supply chain, manufacturing, aircraft operations and end-of-life, from the front line to the back office. That's why, for the third year running, we have partnered with TECHO to help improve the quality of life in some of the communities where we operate. This year we’ve already built solar lights and rainwater harvesting systems in Brazil, Chile and Mexico, and on this occasion I had the honour of taking part in the build in Santiago, Chile. It was an experience I will never forget and reminded me of why long-term sustainable growth is critical to social and economic prosperity, and why we have to stay strong behind our values and purpose.
