VivaAerobus receives first of 52 A320s on order

New A320 marks next step towards fleet renewal

Ultra-low-cost carrier VivaAerobus has taken delivery of its first new A320 following the aircraft handover at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse. The A320 is the first to be delivered from a 2013 purchase agreement for 52 aircraft (12 A320ceo and 40 A320neo), which is the largest single order by a Mexican customer. VivaAerobus already operates six leased A320s and will become an all-Airbus operator as it completes its fleet transition from 737-300s early 2016.

Including the first A320, all VivaAerobus’ A320ceo are powered by IAE engines. The A320neo will be powered by Pratt and Whitney engines.
For VivaAerobus’ CEO Juan-Carlos Zuazua, receiving the first A320 of the significant 52-aircratf order was an important milestone for the airline’s passengers, shareholders and staff. Juan-Carlos Zuazua told Noticias that the new A320 supports their growth strategy and enables them to lower costs and airfares even further, thereby widening VivaAerobus´ price leadership in Mexico.
The new A320 aircraft, of which the airline expects seven more this year, provides VivaAerobus with the additional capacity to exploit substantial growth opportunities in Mexico, while growing in their main hubs and underpenetrated markets.

Although this represents the first delivery of new A320s for VivaAerobus, it is not the first Airbus aircraft to fly in the airline’s livery. VivaAerobus started operating Airbus aircraft in June 2014 with leased aircraft. Since then, the Airbus fleet has grown to seven units flying side by side today with 10 remaining 737s. The A320s are operated on major routes, mainly from Monterey and Mexico City, where it allows the airline to benefit from increasing capacity of about 25 percent.
Beyond the dramatic change in technology and cost efficiency experienced by VivaAerobus, passengers have also clearly noted the shift in comfort and overall travel experience. Wider seats, larger bins, quieter cabin, larger windows for more natural light, are some of the key features passengers immediately spot when boarding the aircraft. Not surprisingly, praises and compliments about the A320 can be seen over and over again throughout the airline’s social media channels. Some of our favorites include:
- “The Airbus A320 is very good and efficient”
- “Beautiful Airbus A320!”
- “The A320 looks so modern and nice…”
