A record year for Airbus

Airbus makes history again in Latin America

Airbus made history again in 2011 by setting several industry records.

Airbus delivered 534 commercial aircraft to 88 customers (10 new) and booked 1,608 orders (1,419 net) in 2011, making it the most successful year in the company’s history, and the 10th in a row with a production increase.

Net commercial orders include 19 for the A380, 52 A330/A350 XWB Family aircraft, and 1,348 A320 Family aircraft. Of these, the A320neo won 1,226 firm sales confirming its title as the “the fastest selling airliner ever.”

In the Latin America and Caribbean region, the A320neo Family has also been the “star” of the year, with LAN, TAM and Volaris ordering a total of 72 A320neo.

Overall, Airbus in Latin America had a record order intake of 100 commercial aircraft, worth US$9.5 billion gross at list prices, making it the most successful year in the company’s history. The Airbus share of total aircraft sales (above 100 seats) for the region reached 91 percent in aircraft orders from:
- LAN for 20 A320neo (first A320neo customer of the region);
- TAM for 32 A320 Family, including 22 A320neo;
- Avianca for four A330-200Fs (first A330-200F customer in the region) and
- Volaris for 44 A320 Family, including 30 A320neo (biggest aviation order in Mexican history).

While 2011 was an exceptional year, these records confirm the continuous leadership of Airbus in the region over the last decade and the great appeal of Airbus products. The A320 Family versatility has proven to perfectly adapt to the region’s needs, whether the requirements come from low-cost carriers, major airlines or small niche players, while the penetration of the A330-200F marks a new age of addressing the freight business more efficiently.

This record year is another example of the dynamism and the growth potential of the region, and it is a promising sign of more success to come.
