Perspectives from new Airbus Latin America President

A lot has happened since our last Noticias Airbus was published.

To start, I have proudly assumed the position of President of Airbus Latin America and Caribbean Commercial Aircraft after the retirement of my long-time mentor Rafael Alonso. As many of you know, Rafael helped to transform the aviation industry in Latin America by building Airbus’ presence and enabling the growth of the region’s airlines, which have brought the most efficient and modern Airbus aircraft to a growing population that ranges from first-time flyers to well-traveled professionals and everything in between. Rafael’s vision and pioneering spirit have positioned Airbus for continued success as the market leader in the region, and my team and I intend to persevere to ensure his legacy lives on.

Airbus Latin America also left its mark at the Farnborough Airshow this summer when VivaAerobus signed an amendment to their existing purchase agreement for 25 incremental A321neo and 16 up-conversions of A320neos to A321neos. For the Mexican-based ultra-low-cost carrier, acquiring more A321neo reflected their long-term commitment to cost reduction, innovation, operational and environmental efficiency and passenger experience.

Most recently, Airbus was also proud to deliver Sky Airline‘s first A320neo aircraft, on lease from ALC at a delivery ceremony in Toulouse. This new A320neo is the first of 21 A320neos to be delivered to the Chilean ultra low cost carrier and all-Airbus operator, and will upgrade and expand Sky’s existing fleet of 15 A320 Family aircraft.

Looking ahead, we remain particularly excited about delivering the Americas’ first A330neo to Azul. Azul will be the A330neo launch customer in the Americas. The Brazilian airline will incorporate the newest, lowest seat mile cost 300-seater into their 25-Airbus aircraft fleet, including seven A330s and 18 A320neo. Azul will eventually operate five additional A330neo committed with Avolon.

I very much look forward to sharing my insights with you about our dynamic region through this column, and encourage you to provide us with feedback on the topics you would like to see Noticias Airbus cover.
