Aerolíneas Argentinas will grow their fleet with new A330-200

Argentine flagship carrier enters into a new twin era

Argentina being one of the most southern countries in the world creates real challenges for flag carrier Aerolíneas Argentinas. Many of their long haul flights are extremely demanding and until not too long ago were operated by a single fleet of 12 A340s. Quads (four engine aircraft) have been the answer to some of their operations where ETOPS’ free aircraft (Extended range Twin Operations) and very long range capabilities as well as optimum hot and high performance were a must.

There is yet another part of the carrier’s network strategy dedicated to connecting the Americas, which did not necessarily require the quads capabilities. Recognising the A330’s economics and commonality with their A340 fleet, the airline further improved their operations by adding four leased A330-200s, ultimately leading them to start a new chapter with the long-awaited return of their Buenos Aires-New York route.

The launch of the 242t MTOW (Maximum Take Off Weight) A330-200, which will be available in 2016, opened the doors to an improved range capability that not only ensures a connection between the Americas and Western Europe, but it also allows the Argentine flag carrier to offer farther European routes only reachable with their A340s today.

The new range above 7,000nm together with improved aircraft aerodynamics resulting in new fuel savings led Aerolíneas Argentinas to decide to further grow their A330 fleet with four new A330-200s powered by GE engines. This historical decision was announced by the airline's top executives and the country’s authorities on February 12.

We applaud the airline’s commitment to continue providing the best possible service to their customers and connecting Argentina with the rest of the world with the most efficient aircraft.
